OPP: Sophie C’est La Vie’s Vintage Loveseat Restoration

Even though this is my blog, I’ll occasionally share the virtual spotlight with some of my oh-so-crafty friends under the category that I have so lovingly named Other People’s Property.

Last April, I was in New York visiting one of my best friends & tattoo artist, Sophie C’est La Vie, when she decided to take me on an adventure to pick up a  French Provincial loveseat that she had found for a ridiculously low price online. Let me tell you, picking up this couch wasn’t the easiest of tasks. First we had to secure a Zipcar and navigate through New York traffic. We, of course, got lost. Then she and I had to carry the couch back down to the car, lucky for us it was fairly light. We then, true to form, got lost on the way back to her loft and almost missed our drop off time for the Zipcar. Let’s just say we cut it super close. And because we didn’t want to have to carry the loveseat back from the Zipcar lot to her loft, which was a short trek, she ended up dropping me off in front of her building with the seat where I sat on it while people walked by giving me strange looks until she was able to return and we could move it inside.

But, it was all worth it. For her.

As you can see in the before pics, that back left leg was barely holding on. We made an executive decision and ripped that bad boy off. Which is why in the second before pic, it’s sitting on a box to help keep it upright.

That loveseat tho, it needed a LOT of love. The back leg was now gone, the bottom was unstable and the stuffing had pretty much all but disintergrated. But, as you can see, her dogs didn’t seem to mind.

I had to return to Atlanta before she could start anymore work of the restoration but she kept me up to date on her progress and sent me a picture of the final results, which I’m more than happy to share with you.

So, what do you think?

  • Love it! But i soooo want to paint that wood a shiny shiny black or blue to match. Impressive work on the uplholstery if she did that herself. I’m too scared to tackle the granny chairs that have been sitting in our dining room since last year.

    • She considered painting, although I’m not sure why she ultimately decided not to. And yes, she did the upholstery herself! I have some talented friends. :)

I can’t wait to see what you do with those chairs once you finally do tackle them. Just do it!! LOL ;)

  • that is a nice lookin chair i’m lovin it!

    • yeah, she did a great job bringing it back to life!
